Imagine Your Civil Rights Disabled
“For some reason, society believes it can trample on a disabled person’s right to liberty because it is providing charitable services.” — lawyer Don Renaud quoted in the Huffington Post Canada.
Don Renaud is featured in the Canadian documentary film Hope Is Not A Plan, which highlights civil rights violations endured by the disabled in Canada. Renaud is a founding member of the BC Wrongful Death Law Reform Society, which seeks to modernize the BC Family Compensation Act to provide recourse for the death of non-breadwinners due to the fault of another. Under BC law, damages can be awarded only if the deceased had dependents, leaving the lives of children, the elderly and the significantly disabled virtually worthless in the eyes of the law.
