Successful lawsuits will spark change
“Without an admission of guilt, there will be no changes in how doctors and hospitals do things.” — Mother whose daughter went to hospital with two broken legs and died from medical errors.
The Wrongful Death Law Reform Group rallied outside the Vancouver Art Gallery on Sunday, September 25th to urge the Government of BC to change the outdated Family Compensation Act. Families of those killed due to someone else’s negligence cannot sue for damages under the province’s current law, unless the deceased had an income or provided for dependents. The group, co-founded by lawyer Don Renaud, seeks the right to sue on behalf of non-breadwinners, thereby extending justice for children, the elderly and severely disabled.
