Wrongful death law questioned after Pickton fund

“There needs to be a change in the law to provide access to justice for all individuals.” — Don Renaud, Burnaby personal injury lawyer, quoted in Vancouver 24hrs

Don Renaud was interviewed by Vancouver 24hrs following the announcement of a $50,000 fund for each of the children of women murdered by Robert Pickton. Although the figure was viewed by the public as a gross undervaluation, no more, in fact, is possible under the current Family Compensation Act in British Columbia. Renaud is advocating for a Wrongful Death Accountability Act which would allow the courts to determine compensation following the wrongful death of a family member.

Renaud is Past President of the Trial Lawyers Association of B.C. and is a founding member of the BC Wrongful Death Law Reform Society.
